Key Features and Benefits
Biometric Identification Identity fraud is a growing concern in today's society; even in the most disciplined working environment it is still possible for a rogue user to fraudulently obtain username and password information.
Biometric identification (fingerprint recognition) provides a secure, error proof method of verifying users of the system are indeed who they claim to be, ensuring security of high value items, such as computer chips or restricted drugs. Operation of the fingerprint scanner is very simple. Each user is required to register two fingers with the software; this allows a user to continue using the machine with an alternative finger should one of his or her fingers be bandaged or injured. Once registered, the user logs into the machine with his or her ID using the light pen or touchscreen as normal; the software then requests the user to verify his or her fingerprint instead of prompting for a password. The user simply places a registered finger onto the sensor which will confirm the correct person is operating the machine. The biometric module is quick and safe. The fingerprint verification software stores an encrypted template of the user's fingerprint against which identity verification is performed; it is not possible to recreate the user's original fingerprint scan from this template, hence there are no data protection or privacy implications. It is not possible to recover or recreate a fingerprint from a previous impression on the scanner.
